A little food …
This is a very nice go-to pizzeria. Hungry Physicists will find Pie Eyed Pizzeria dependable and worthy of repeat patronage. You might see this as a weak positive statement, but consistently-good pizza places are hard to come by. When you find it, use it! The only real negative comment I have is that they provide napkins that are way to flimsy to write on … what’s up with that? Also, any reasonably-sized study group will take up almost all the seating.
Pictured is a slice of Pepperoni Pizza, Onion Rings, and Marinara Sauce. To give you an idea of the sheer size of this pizza, that plate is about the size of my spread-out hand. These slices are huge! YES, it’s New York style, but that doesn’t make it less good … just different. They also provide proper, Chicago style pizza.
A little science …
Since pizza needs to be kept warm, many places employ heating lamps. When on, we see them emitting an orange glow, but most of the heat comes from what we can’t see – infrared light. Any light will heat a surface, as long as the surface can absorb it. It turns out that many things can absorb infrared light. In this case, the various pizza molecules absorb infrared in a way that makes them vibrate against each other. These rotational and vibrational motions result in friction that raises the temperature of the pizza.
