Overkill Veggie Dip

As many Hungry Physicists know, veggies on a tray only exist to get dip from somewhere, to your mouth. Really… look me in the eye and tell me that when you come across a dip-less veggie tray, you DON’T just pass it right up? I thought so.  If you think I’m going overboard, this recipe will show you that when it comes to veggie dips, overkill is underrated.

Ingredients

  • 16 oz Cream Cheese (454g)
  • 2/3 C Mayonnaise (143g)
  • 1/3 C Sour Cream (85g)
  • 5 Green Onions (chopped)(60g)
  • 2 Tbsp Dill (6g)
  • 1 Tbsp Thyme (3.62g)
  • 1 Tsp Worcestershire Sauce (5g)
  • 1/2 Tsp Tabasco Sauce (2g)
  • 1 1/2 Tsp Black Pepper (3g)
  • 2 1/2 Tsp Kosher Salt (12g)

Instructions

  • Combine the cream cheese, mayonnaise, and sour cream in a large bowl and blend with the hand mixer until smooth. Use a wooden spoon to scrape down the edges often.
  • Add the green onions, dill, and thyme and combine well. Scrape down the edges.
  • Add the Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco sauce, black pepper, and kosher salt and combine well. Scrape down the edges.

This recipe is all about the salt!  In fact, if you have some time to experiment, prepare the whole recipe without the salt.  Taste it, and add salt 1 Tsp. at a time, tasting after each addition.  You’ll find that the salt enhances all of the other flavors!

Aside from salt, this recipe lends itself well to being modified.  The cream cheese, mayonnaise, and sour cream base can be flavored with almost anything and still preserve the dipping consistency.
